NEET (UG) For Admission to Under Graduate Medical Courses – 2024

National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test NEET (UG) – 2024, here in after referred to as NEET (UG) – 2024. There shall be conducted a uniform entrance examination to all medical educational institutions at the undergraduate level and post-graduate level through such designated authority in Hindi, English and such other languages and in such manner as may be prescribed and the designated authority shall ensure the conduct of uniform entrance examination in the aforesaid manner; Provided that not withstanding any judgment or order of any court, the provisions of this section shall not apply, in relation to the uniform entrance examination at the undergraduate level for the academic year 2016-17 conducted in accordance with any regulations made under this Act, in respect of the State Government seats (whether in Government Medical College or in a private Medical College) where such State has not opted for such examinations”.

The Central Government has established the National Testing Agency to conduct entrance examination for admission/ fellowship in higher educational institutions.

The Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, GOI vide their letter no. F.No. 19-5/2014-TS-I dated 6th July, 2018 has mandated the NTA to conduct the NEET (UG).

About NTA

The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India (GOI), has established National Testing Agency (NTA) as an independent, autonomous and self-sustained premier organisation.

The responsibility of NTA is limited to the conduct of the entrance test, declaration of result and providing All India Rank to the Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

The objectives of NTA, inter-alia, include:

  • To conduct efficient, transparent and international standard tests in order to assess the competency of candidates for admission.
  • To undertake research on educational, professional and testing system to identify gaps in the knowledge systems and take steps for bridging them.
  • To identify experts and institutions in setting examination questions
  • To produce and disseminate information and research on education and professional development standards.

NEET UG 2024 Entrance Test DATE

National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test NEET (UG) – 2024 will be conducted on 05 May, 2024  (Sunday) from 02:00 p.m. to 05:20 p.m. The duration of test will be three (03:20) hours.The schedule will remain unaltered even if the date of test is declared a public holiday.

NEET UG 2024 Eligibility and Qualifications

Eligibility to appear in NEET (UG) – 2024

Eligibility for appearing in NEET (UG) is as stipulated in Indian Medical Council Act-1956 and the Dentists Act-1948 as amended in 2018.

The Age criteria for appearing in NEET (UG) – 2024 is as follows:

For Candidates of Unreserved Category (UR)>

born on or before 31.12.2007

For Candidates of SC/ST/OBC/PwD Category

born on or before 31.12.2007

iii. Indian Citizens/ Overseas Citizens of India intending to pursue MBBS/ BDS from a foreign Medical/ Dental Institute also need to qualify NEET (UG).

Eligibility for seats under the control of States/Deemed Universities/Central Universities/ESIC and AFMC including Delhi University (DU), BHU & AMU/central pool quota
Indian Nationals, Non Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizen of India (OCI), Persons with Indian Origin (PIO) and Foreign Nationals are eligible for admission in Medical/Dental Colleges subject to rules and regulations framed by the respective State Governments, Institutions and the Government of India as the case may be.
Foreign nationals may confirm their eligibility from the concerned Medical/Dental College/State.
Eligibility for 15% All India Quota seats
Indian Nationals, Non Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizen of India (OCI), Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) and Foreign Nationals are eligible for 15% All India Quota Seats.
Candidates from State of J & K, Ladakh.
Students from State of J & K are eligible for 15% All India Quota seats as State of J&K has opted out of All India Scheme since its inception. If they claim eligibility, they must submit online Self Declaration which will be generated and printed automatically alongwith confirmation page for the record and to present the same during counselling. The Self-Declaration Form is given in Appendix III.
  1. The online Self Declaration of the candidates will be verified at the time of counselling and if found to be false at any time, the candidature/admission of such candidates shall be cancelled and criminal proceedings may be initiated against such candidates.
  2. Candidates from the State of J & K can appear in NEET (UG) for admission to Private Medical/Dental Colleges or any Private/Deemed University and Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune subject to the fulfilment of eligibility conditions.
  3. Qualifications and Qualifying Examination Codes
  4. Provided that to be eligible for NEET (UG) – 2024, candidate must have passed any of the qualifying examinations as enumerated above or appearing in the qualifying examination in 2024.
  5. Provided also that to be eligible for NEET (UG) – 2024, the candidate must have passed in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology and English individually and must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology at the qualifying examination as mentioned in clause (2) of Regulation 4 on Graduate Medical Education Regulations, 1997 as amended in 2018 and in addition must have come in the merit list of NEET (UG) – 2024 for admission to MBBS/BDS / BAMS/ BUMS and BSMS Courses.
  6. In respect of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes or Other Backward Classes, the marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology taken together in qualifying examination shall be 40% marks instead of 50% marks for Unreserved Candidates and 40% for SC/ST/OBC candidates. In respect of PwD candidates specified under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, the minimum marks in qualifying examination in Physics, Chemistry and Biology (or Botany & Zoology)/Bio-technology taken together in qualifying examination shall be 45% instead of 50% for Unreserved category candidates.
  7. Provided further that the students educated abroad seeking admission into medical colleges in India must have passed in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology and English up to the 12th standard level with 50% marks and their equivalency determined by Association of Indian Universities (AIU) as per regulations of the Medical Council of India and the concerned University.
  8. If a candidate does not fall within the qualifications prescribed as per Code number 01-07, he/she should furnish complete details to determine eligibility.
  9. The Pre-medical course may be conducted either at a Medical College or at a Science College.
  10. Marks obtained in Mathematics are not to be considered for eligibility for admission to MBBS/ BDS / BAMS/ BUMS and BSMS Courses.
  11. The candidates who have studied from the Foreign/International Board should ensure that the qualifying examination passed by them are, in scope and standard, as explained in CODE: 07.
